On 13th, 14th and 15th December, the Montecastillo Golf course hosted the second round of the UGP Tour WAGR 2024-25, a tournament that brought together 50 players.
The competition took place in excellent weather conditions throughout the weekend and in a course that presented excellent conditions.
From the first moment, the course was going to show its demand. On Friday, only two of the favourites, José Manuel Fernández, Mexican UGP player and Tjelle Rieger, German national team player, were able to beat the course, with rounds of 70 and 71 respectively, while Iñigo Aguirre was in third place with a round of Par.
Saturday dawned another magnificent day for golf, another day in which the players faced the toughness of the course and some fast greens with complicated flag positions. José Manuel Fernández, managed to maintain the lead after submitting a round of 73 strokes, while Luca Herb, with another round of 73, became the main pursuer, being 4 strokes behind the leader for the last day.
On Sunday, like the rest of the weekend, the day dawned with ideal playing conditions. A day in which José Manuel Fernández started with a 4-shot lead over Luca Herb, which at first made us think that the Mexican would win comfortably, but it turned into a beautiful fight until almost the end of the day.
Both José Manuel and Luca, played a very high level game, spending the first nine holes -3 and -2 respectively. 5 strokes ahead which became 1 after 12 holes. From there, Jose Manuel Fernandez, took back control of the game and his solidity until the end, which made him proclaim champion of the tournament with 3 strokes ahead of the German player.
The UGP Tour WAGR #2 in the wonderful and demanding course of Montecastillo Golf, has proclaimed champion the player of UGP Malaga, Jose Manuel Fernandez, with the consequent prize of his entry in the WAGR ranking, well deserved prize, congratulations!
