UGP Tour WAGR 2024-25

On 7th, 8th and 9th February, El Paraíso Golf hosted the third event of the UGP Tour WAGR 2024-25, a tournament that received almost 40 national and international players.

The competition took place under wonderful weather throughout the weekend and on a course that was presented in excellent conditions, highlighting the greens, which became the biggest challenge for the participants.

After the first day, in the men’s category, the favourites were already going to stay in the leading positions. The Sotogrande player, Pedro Marin, with a round of 71 and the Gibraltarian Sebastian Desoisa with a round of 72, were placed second and third respectively, behind the only player who managed to beat the field, William Sherman, UGP player, who presented a great round of 68 strokes.

In the women’s category, the first day ended very evenly matched with four players within one stroke of each other. Sara Moreno, UGP player ended up leading with a round of 73 strokes while, in second position, with 74 strokes were placed Kirke Kiige, Barbora Vinkler and Tiphani Knight, which presupposed that the qualification could be very close all weekend.

Saturday dawned another spectacular day for the practice of the game, and from early in the morning the players took to the course to face some challenging flag positions.

At the end of the day, in the men’s category, Sebastian Desoisa, delivering the best card of the day, with 68 strokes, was placed leader and Pedro Marin, with a 70, finished second one stroke behind the leader, both were going to stand out from the rest of players, leaving Marco De Nova, UGP player to 6 strokes of difference. For Sunday there was a nice head-to-head between them.

In the girls, a stratospheric round of 65 strokes of Tiphani Knigth, displaying a spectacular game throughout the day, would leave sentenced the tournament in the absence of the last day, since Barbora Vinkler, who finished the day in second place, after a round of 74 strokes, was 8 strokes behind, far behind the player of Playa Serena golf.

On Sunday, they took to the course again with another sunny day and a light breeze that made the day even more challenging than the previous ones.

Sunday was Sebastian Desoisa’s day, he played his best game and with a round of 66 strokes, he gave no option to doubt and dominated the classification in an overwhelming way, finishing with 7 strokes difference over Pedro Marín.

In the women’s competition, Tiphani Knigth, with another solid round of 72 strokes, certified her dominance during the weekend winning the tournament with 15 strokes difference over the second classified, Kirke Kiige.

The next event of the UGP Tour WAGR will be played from 28 February to 2 March 2025 at the Old Course de Isla Canela Golf, located in Huelva, which will undoubtedly be a challenge and an opportunity for players to demonstrate their level.
